Hey guys, it has been a while since I have posted. But my buddy has been noticing problems with his tune. I was wondering if any of you guys could give us advice on things to do with these ignition and fuel maps. The tune was done by a local shop and you can tell that they rushed it; the shop is now closed so my buddy is pretty much stuck with this bad tune.

The setup is a d16z6:
- vitara pistons + Hasting Rings (75mm bore)
- fjt custom I beam rods
- new bearings (engine, rod and thrust washers)
- re-built stock head
- DSM 450 injectors (with resistors)
- ACT six puck Clutch
- Cast Iron Manifold
- Garrett t3 turbo (at 12psi)
- Nice but no-name intercooler
- Type S BOV
- Motorola 2.5 bar
- p28 ecu with Hondata S300

Any advice or pointers will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

+1. Datalog with AFR is a must, and a description of the problem.

im too lazy to convert " mer to boost...
but for that vitara setuo 1 degree retard per psi should be quite safe place to start.

ie.. 10psi=18 degree timing at say 7k rpm

Alright, last we tried to get datalogging to work via a AEM UEGO unit and for hours it was displaying values that were way off ; like 18.0 at idle (in hondata) when it read ~ 14.6 on the gauge. But we finally tried an offset of 1.31 V (through ELD input, with resistors r136 and r138 removed) and displayed values that were at least semi-closer to the real values (but they were still off).

How do I attach files on here? I have the calibrations and datalogs but don't know how to attach them on this site.

Problems I noticed with the tune are:
1) Car seems to momentarily hit a wall while boosting (like the acceleration is not smooth, you can feel it pick up speed then it stops for a moment then goes back to picking up speed)
2) Car is pretty rich at WOT and higher rpm (~10.2- 11.6 AFR)
3) Car is not too responsive in part-throttle situations
-but we smoothed out part throttle, and found it to be more responsive.

Any advice, info is helpful.

I do notice that you have a seriously MASSIVE jump in fuel on transition into boost. While at the same time, your dropping almost 2 deg of timing while entering vtec. Those combined will certainly make for a shitty ride in the mid-upper rpms.

Also your fuel values above 5500 are all flatlined, as your engine begins to lose efficiency and lose power in the high rpm (mostly because of restrictions and the stock cam) the engine will actually need LESS fuel.

where do you live? check out d-series for the tuner list and see if there is a tuner close to you.

FrodoGT, thanks for all your advice; I have the calibration. I just don't know how to upload it on turbod16. I would gladly email it to you or anything like that.

Danz, Our closest tuner is roughly three hours away and it costs 500 dollars (which my buddy does not have)

You may be able to upload to the post, but I think .skl files arent allowed. Try rapidshare? Its easy.

let me know if it works.
thanks; hopefully I can meet up with my buddy to get a real datalog to post

Here try this. http://rapidshare.com/files/303842384/c ... d.skl.html

I left all of your parameters intact, but pretty much completely revamped the maps. It was just far too crooked and skewed to be messed with blind.

Give it a try but be careful with it! It could be too lean in boost, but maybe not.. I have no way of knowing for sure without your car in front of me. Im sure you can tweak the idle as it will likely be a bit off but mid range should feel far more responsive and it should get up and go much better, you Had FAR too much ignition in the mid range and on your way up to high rpm. Retarded ignition will help spool the turbo and prevent detonation.

I did reduce a fair amount of fuel but as you said it was in the 10's. I also increased ignition in boost a bit and your final ignition comes out about 2 deg higher, with the viataras it may like even more. I kept it on the safe side with a 1 deg retard but you can likely get away with .75 on the street and never worry as long as you know your afr isnt wrong.

FrodoGt, Thanks for all of your help.

I should be meeting up with my buddy on Tuesday and I'll upload the map for him. I'll tell you how it does. Hopefully, I can get the offset voltage dead on for some datalogs. Regardless, thanks

Careful with that offset voltage..they arent always linear. What may put it dead on in high afr will wander off as it richens. I would find out why your off by that much. The most ive ever had to offset was about .4v
