Hey guys,
So I don't drive my CRX to much so it hasn't been a big issue. Though as I get closer to getting my build done for my motor, I'm starting to have to put attention to the suspension issues I'm having.

Here is the Summary:
When I'm driving down the interstate the car will get caught in the grooves on the road and yank violently back and forth and I have to fight it to keep going straight. I was driving home one night on the interstate and was doing around 70 and I almost ended up sideways because it got hooked in the grooves in the road and I couldn't keep it going straight.

I bought the car with the stuff on it so I'm not for sure what all it has parts wise.

Setup:
It's on Eibach springs I think its maybe a 3+ inch drop. It has KYB AGX shocks and is running 17's x 7.5 or 8 I don't know for sure.

I'm thinking its the wide tires and being so low that is causing this behavior. The crx I first built in high school had about a 2" drop and Kyb Agx shocks with 7" wide wheels I did not have this problem at all with it darting into the grooves on the road.

That's why I'm kinda wondering what is going on as I have lowered and did suspension work on about 4 to 5 cars and never had one that does this.

Any info you can give me would help.. Thanks guys

get an alignment

what you describe is common with all radius rod hondas with poor alignment

3in drop means you have a lot of negative camber. Do you have a camber kit? Try setting the camber between 0 and -2 to see if that fixes it.

If that doesn't help the next step is getting a 4-wheel alignment.

Also what tires are you running? My autocross treads tramline like a bastard especially on a particularly rutted road here, but when I switched to regular long wear tires the problem completely went away. Once I let it go to see how bad it was, I changed lanes...stayed, changed back, then went to the other lane..then ended up back in my original lane! I covered 3 lanes, and the car stopped in the grroves of each one for a short time.

Well,
I'm think it can be said the guy didn't get a alignment he couldn't even put all the bolts back in the transmission when he bolted it on LOL.
I will check the tires to what type they are and let you know.
I don't see any type of provision for correcting camber so I'm pretty sure its way negative.

I have plans to redo the whole entire front end when I swap my motor in so after that and a I get alignment i'm hoping it all goes away.

What do you guys recommend for Camber adjustment. One person suggested the
Ingalls camber kit are they worth it?

What's the offset on the wheels you're running?

Don't really know they came on the car some sorta ebay looking rim. I would say probably 40+ They set almost flush with the wheel wells so they dont stick out or anything.

It just occurred to me that your wheels are wide as hell. Are you sure they're 17x8? Do you see any signs that they're hitting?

If the first number on your tire is a 195 or 205 then they're not 17x8.

Yeah I just checked they are 205 LMAO I might have been on crack.
They look a lot wider than the ones I had on my 240sx and those where only 7" wide.

I was going to give you guys the tire numbers but instead I just threw out the wrong numbers.

Figured it out... This guy I bought this CRX of off is trying to kill me I think.

I came home yesterday and had a idea I would check the mounts to see if they where broken because the car would shift weight in the nose and would also jar really bad some times.

So I get to looking the Transmission mount was only being held to the car and the motor by 1 BOLT! ONE BOLT!!!! I took the whole mount of got bolts for all the holes and then jacked the transmission up and put it all together again and torqued it all down.

Well having all the bolts in your motor mounts makes a night and day difference LMAO.

Car Drives completely different.

nice man

i just downgraded from 195/45R15's to 175/70R13's and i notice ALLLL of my darting issues on grooved roads is gone.

might be because of the wide tire

I have that similar problem with my azenis. But i think its also cuz i need another alignment. But on a perfect flat paved road it doesnt do it. Only on a major road with grooves from heavy traffic causing the wear down in the road.

Same exact thing here..now try it with no power steering :P Also hankook rs2's do it 4x more and harder.. ive run both that and the azenis.

toe will actually have an effect as well...drag cars are more toe'd in toward each other so when they get up to speed they are running straight..almost pushing against each other down the track. like the toe alignment exaggerated looks like this / \ where as yours right now is \ /.... what happens is your tires are always searching for a direction to go. once one tire gets into a grove itll just pull you. camber/toe always go hand and hand

but like everyone has said..an alignment will definetly help you out. if you already do not have proper camber correction kits then i would look into doing that.
